BYD ATTO 3 (e-Platform 3.0) Smart Key Remote Functions Do Not Work

A smart key remote function failure indicates that the vehicle is not correctly responding to commands from the smart key transmitter. The fault affects the keyless entry and remote-control system, including the smart key, receiver or antenna circuits, body control functions, and vehicle power supply used to process locking, unlocking, and related remote commands. The BYD ATTO 3 uses BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 architecture, with this generation introduced from 2022 and continuing onward.

Possible Causes

  • Weak or discharged smart key battery
  • Faulty smart key transmitter
  • Incorrect or lost key registration
  • Smart key receiver or antenna fault
  • Low or unstable 12V auxiliary battery voltage
  • Damaged smart key antenna wiring
  • Loose or damaged electrical connector
  • Poor terminal contact or corrosion
  • Body control module fault
  • CAN communication fault
  • Radio-frequency interference affecting remote operation
  • Internal keyless entry system fault

Diagnosis

Diagnosis should begin by testing the smart key battery and confirming whether another registered key operates correctly. The smart key registration status, receiver and antenna operation, vehicle 12V supply, relevant control-module data, wiring, connectors, and communication circuits should then be assessed against manufacturer specifications.

If only one key is affected, attention should focus on the transmitter and its registration; if multiple keys fail, the vehicle-side receiver, power supply, or control system should be investigated. For New Zealand owners, confirming whether the fault is key-side or vehicle-side before replacing keyless entry components can help avoid unnecessary repair costs.

Accurately diagnosing this fault often requires manufacturer testing procedures, wiring diagrams, connector pinouts, specifications, and system calibration information. Access to the factory service manual significantly reduces diagnostic time and helps prevent unnecessary parts replacement.
