MG ZS (Gen2) ABS Light On

An ABS Light On condition indicates that the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) Control Module has detected a fault within the ABS, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), or a related component that affects braking system operation. When the ABS warning light illuminates, the conventional hydraulic braking system generally continues to function normally; however, anti-lock braking, stability control, traction control, hill start assist, and other integrated safety features may be disabled until the fault is repaired. The ABS Control Module continuously monitors wheel speed sensors, hydraulic control components, steering angle sensor, yaw rate sensor, brake pressure sensors, communication networks, and power supply circuits. Any abnormality can trigger the ABS warning light and store one or more Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). This fault applies to the MG ZS Gen2 (ZS11 platform), introduced from 2024 onwards.

MG ZS (Gen2) BCM Fault

A Body Control Module (BCM) Fault indicates that the Body Control Module has detected an internal malfunction or that another control module has identified abnormal communication or operation of the BCM. The BCM is a central electronic control unit responsible for managing many of the vehicle’s body and convenience systems, including central locking, keyless entry, immobilizer functions, lighting, power windows, wipers, horn, interior lighting, alarm system, remote functions, and communication with other control modules over the CAN Bus network. Because the BCM acts as a communication hub for numerous vehicle systems, a fault can cause multiple unrelated electrical problems, communication errors, and warning messages throughout the vehicle. MG ZS (Gen2) TCM Fault

A Transmission Control Module (TCM) Fault indicates that the Transmission Control Module has detected an internal malfunction or that another control module, such as the Engine Control Module (ECM), has identified abnormal communication or operation of the transmission control system. The TCM is responsible for controlling transmission functions, including gear selection, shift timing, clutch operation (where applicable), torque converter lock-up, transmission protection strategies, and communication with the Engine Control Module, ABS, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and other vehicle systems over the CAN Bus network. A TCM fault can result in poor transmission performance, harsh or delayed shifting, limp-home mode, loss of communication, or complete transmission control failure. MG ZS (Gen2) Steering Angle Sensor Fault

A Steering Angle Sensor Fault indicates that the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) or Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) Control Module has detected an abnormality in the steering angle sensor or its communication with other vehicle control modules. The steering angle sensor measures the steering wheel’s position, direction, and rate of rotation, providing critical data to the ABS, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), Electric Power Steering (EPS), Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and other vehicle stability functions. Accurate steering angle information allows these systems to compare the driver’s intended direction with the vehicle’s actual movement and intervene when necessary to maintain stability. MG ZS (Gen2) Wheel Speed Sensor Fault

A Wheel Speed Sensor Fault indicates that the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) Control Module has detected an abnormal or missing signal from one or more wheel speed sensors or their associated circuits. Each wheel speed sensor continuously monitors the rotational speed of its respective wheel and sends this information to the ABS module, which uses the data to control the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Hill Start Assist, and other advanced driver assistance functions. MG ZS (Gen2) Catalytic Converter Fault

A Catalytic Converter Fault indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected reduced efficiency or abnormal operation of the catalytic converter within the vehicle’s exhaust emissions control system. The catalytic converter converts harmful exhaust gases, including hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO), and nitrogen oxides (NOx), into less harmful emissions before they leave the exhaust system. The ECM continuously monitors catalytic converter performance by comparing the signals from the upstream and downstream oxygen sensors. When the converter can no longer effectively reduce emissions or becomes restricted, the ECM stores Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and illuminates the Check Engine Light. MG ZS (Gen2) Variable Valve Timing Solenoid Fault

The VVT solenoid, also known as the Oil Control Valve (OCV), regulates engine oil flow to the camshaft phaser, allowing the ECM to continuously adjust camshaft timing according to engine speed, load, and operating conditions. This improves engine performance, fuel economy, torque, idle quality, and exhaust emissions. A faulty VVT solenoid can prevent accurate camshaft timing adjustment, leading to poor engine performance, rough running, increased fuel consumption, and camshaft timing-related Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). MG ZS (Gen2) Fuel Injector Fault

A Fuel Injector Fault indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected an abnormality in one or more fuel injectors or their electrical control circuits. Fuel injectors precisely meter and atomize fuel into each engine cylinder, ensuring the correct air-fuel mixture for efficient combustion, engine performance, fuel economy, and emissions control. Modern MG ZS Gen2 engines use electronically controlled multi-point fuel injection, with the ECM individually controlling each injector based on engine operating conditions. A faulty fuel injector can result in poor fuel delivery, cylinder misfires, rough engine operation, increased fuel consumption, elevated emissions, and reduced engine performance. MG ZS (Gen2) Ignition Coil Fault

An Ignition Coil Fault indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected an abnormality in one or more ignition coils or their control circuits. The ignition coils convert the vehicle’s low battery voltage into the high voltage required to ignite the air-fuel mixture within each cylinder. Modern MG ZS Gen2 engines use a coil-on-plug (COP) ignition system, where each spark plug is supplied by its own dedicated ignition coil for precise ignition timing and improved engine efficiency. A faulty ignition coil can cause incomplete combustion, resulting in engine misfires, rough running, reduced power, increased fuel consumption, and higher exhaust emissions. MG ZS (Gen2) Electronic Throttle Control Fault

An Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Fault indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected an abnormality within the drive-by-wire throttle control system. The Electronic Throttle Control system electronically links the accelerator pedal to the throttle body using accelerator pedal position sensors, throttle position sensors, an electric throttle actuator motor, and the ECM. The ECM continuously compares accelerator pedal input with throttle plate position to ensure precise airflow control, engine performance, emissions, and safety. If any component or communication within the ETC system becomes unreliable, the ECM may activate Reduced Engine Power (Limp Home Mode) to protect the engine and maintain safe vehicle operation.
