While an internal ECU fault remains possible, it is typically considered only after the power supply, grounding, fuse, relay, and communication circuits have been thoroughly tested. Several different faults can produce the same symptoms, which is why proper diagnosis is essential.

Diagnosis

The symptoms alone cannot determine whether the fault originates in the ECU, battery supply, power distribution circuits, grounding points, relays, fuses, wiring, or network communications. Proper diagnosis typically requires voltage testing, circuit integrity checks, fuse and relay testing, wiring inspection, and module communication analysis. The OEM Service and Repair Manual is particularly valuable because it contains the factory wiring diagrams, connector pinouts, fuse locations, relay layouts, diagnostic flowcharts, and electrical testing procedures needed to accurately identify the source of the fault.
