Under these conditions, the Engine Control Module (ECM) must accurately manage fuel delivery, ignition timing, air intake, and throttle operation to maintain engine performance. If any of these systems fail to operate correctly, combustion efficiency is reduced, resulting in hesitation. The condition may be intermittent or constant and can be caused by faults within the fuel, ignition, intake, emissions, or engine management systems. Because several control modules communicate over the CAN Bus, electronic or communication faults can also contribute to hesitation under load.
